Durban: Alviro Petersen and captain Graeme Smith took jus 11.4 overs to reach the target of 58 to win the second and the last test and the series.
Petersen made 31 off 37 with five fours and a six. Smith scored 27 off 33 balls with four boundaries and a six.
Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane fought a lone battle as wickets kept falling at other end to see India bundled out for 223, giving South Africa a target of 58 to win the second and the last test here on final day. Rahane made well fought 96 before he was bowled by Philander.
For South Africa Robin Peterson took four wickets and Steyn and Philander shared three wickets each.
South Africa have won the two match series 1-0 as first test was drawn.
Dale Steyn has been named man of the match for his 9 wickets.
