India vs South Africa 2nd T20, Highlights: Proteas thrash India; win by 4 wickets
South Africa thrash India by five wickets. Again, nothing seems to work for the men in blue. The batting looked clueless, and the bowling, like the previous T20 in Delhi, lacked any venom. These are gloomy signs for India in the World Cup year.
- Decoding Dinesh Karthik's strange day out vs South Africa in Cuttack
- SA 70/3 after 11 overs: Klaasen and Bavuma are leading South Africa's fightback, and I don't think India has any clue what's going on. They are moving through the motions, and both batters are just milking boundaries, singles and doubles. They need 79 off 54 balls and are the clear favourites with Miller still to come. India need wickets and fast.
- SA 28/2 after 5 overs: India have done well to send Hendricks and Pretorius back. But Bavuma looks in good touch, and can be a real dark horse for SA in this chase. 148 is the kind of target that suits Bavuma's batting style. Dussen has come to crease, and he is undoubtedly the real deal. India needs to either choke the flow of runs or get fast wickets. SA can run away with this in a jiffy if both these batters step on the gas.
- IND 148/6 after 20 overs: Dinesh Karthik finally finds his timing and slams 2 sixes in the final over to power India to a respectable total. Can they restrict SA?
- IND 112/5 after 17 overs: The scoreboard reflects the sorry state of India's innings. No batter has posed any threat whatsoever. They haven't hit a boundary in 22 balls, and the game seems to be going nowhere if you are an Indian fan. Can Karthik power the team to a substantial total?
- IND 90/4 after 12.4 overs: What a delivery by Parnell to send back Hardik. The ball pitched in just ahead of good length, jags in big time, and disturbs the timber. A really quiet phase in the match. Nothing much happening. India needs to get a move on. They will need at least 160 to pose a threat here.
- IND 68/3 after 9.1 overs: Maharaj comes into the attack, and instead of giving strike to Shreyas Iyer, who just hit Shamsi for a couple of boundaries, Pant charges down, mishits, and Dussen grabs an easy catch. Bad shot from Pant. Irresponsible to be honest.
- IND 48/2 after 6.4 overs: Big blow for IND! Nortje strikes to send back Kishan.
- IND 42/1 after 6 overs: Ishan Kishan is taking apart the SA attack. He is playing at a strike rate of 161, but India hasn't really gotten to a great Powerplay score. Mediocre at best.
- IND 25/1 after 4 overs: After a few quiet overs, Ishan Kishan decided to break free vs Nortje in the 4th over. Smacked him for 2 quality sixes and Indian are on a roll.
- IND 3/1 after 1 over: From what we saw in the first 3 deliveries, the pitch looks really good. But Gaikwad has thrown it away here. Tried to play away from his body, on the up, with no control, and he paid the price.
- Big blow for South Africa! Quinton de Kock is out with a hamstring injury, Heinrich Klaasen replaces him.
- Tristan Stubbs misses out and is replaced by Reeza Hendricks.
SA have won the toss and opted to bowl first
