Melbourne, Dec 26: Australia's batting coach Justin Langer On Monday revealed that he tried without success for the head coach`s job, which ultimately went to South African Mickey Arthur.
"It was a good process. I just thought that somewhere down the track I'd like to, well, coach Australia of course," Langer said on the opening day of the first Test between India and Australia in Melbourne.
"It was maybe a little premature with my lack of experience, but I've really enjoyed my years here and I'm gaining great experience in what I`m doing now."
Langer took over as batting coach in 2009, within months of his fist-class retirement.
Arthur became Australia`s first foreign cricket coach after a revamp suggested by the Argus Review panel earlier this year.
