New Delhi: Having stayed away from social media for all this while, former captain Anil Kumble finally gifted himself a Twitter handle on his 44th birthday today as wishes soon poured into his account from fans and friends.
"Finally on Twitter...& on a day that am a yr older and hopefully wiser! Looking forward...Cheers," tweeted Kumble on his handle @anilkumble1074.
Nicknamed 'Jumbo' during his playing days, Kumble is one of the most respected cricketers to have led the Indian team. He ended his 18-year-old illustrious career with 619 wickets in 132 Tests and 337 wickets in 271 ODIs.
Iconic batsman and Kumble's long-time teammate Sachin Tendulkar was one of the first to wish him on his birthday and welcomed 'Jumbo' in the world of Twitter.

Currently the chairman of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) cricket committee, Kumble was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour in 2005. He has been a mentor to many an Indian spinner and Harbhajan Singh was one of them.

Kumble's Indian Premier League (IPL) team, where he is the chief mentor, also wished the spinning great on his birthday.
"India's most prolific spinner turns 44. Here's wishing our Chief Mentor- Anil Kumble a very happy birthday! #HBDJumbo," @mipaltan.
Karnataka state Ranji team also welcomed its star on twitter saying, "After a long time, he's here - everyone please welcome Anil Kumble (@anilkumble1074) to twitter. Welcome Jumbo.
