Know the cricketing greats who retired in 2013

New Delhi: The year 2013 will be remembered for the number of cricketing greats who bid adieu to the gentleman's game. From God of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar to Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting, the list is long. But there are a few names that will be missed by cricket fans throughout the world in 2014 and beyond.Lets have a look at the cricket greats who bid adieu in 2013.1. Sachin Tendulkar: The Indian phenomenal batting maestro retired from all formats of the game on 14th November 2013 after the West Indies 2nd test match at his home turf Wankhede Mumbai. 2. Rahul Dravid: Remembered as India's 'Wall', Rahul Dravid went on to play 164 Tests and 344 ODIs and scored close to 25,000 runs. Many pundits point out that a poor series in Australia might have led to Dravid taking the decision to retire. 3. Ricky Ponting:On 29 November 2012 Ponting announced his retirement from Test cricket, the day before he would play in the Perth Test against South Africa. This was his 168th and last Test appearance,equalling the Australian record held by Steve Waugh. Ricky Ponting retired on 3 December 2012 with a Test batting average of 51.85. But he carried on with the game by playing in IPL for Mumbai Indians and CPL. Later on April 2013, Ponting announced his retirement from all formats of the game. 4. Michael Hussey:Another Aussie batting great Michael Hussey is the recent cricketer to hang up his boots. The south-paw retired from Tests and ODI after the tour with Sri Lanka. 5. Andrew Strauss: The England left-hander led his side to two Ashes triumphs. Under his captaincy, England climbed to the number one spot in Tests but he was also at the helm when England were routed 3-0 by Pakistan in the UAE. The recent home series loss to the Proteas cost England and the controversial spat with Kevin Pietersen may have prompted Strauss to end his 100-Test career. 6. Brett Lee:After Glenn McGrath's retirement, Lee led the Aussie pace attack admirably. However, injuries and poor form took a toll on his body. He had retired from Tests in 2010, and brought the curtains down on his international career earlier this year. Lee ended with 310 Test wickets and 380 ODI scalps to his name.
