Know Parvez Rasool, the first cricketer from Kashmir to make it to Team India

New Delhi, July 6: On July 5, when the national selectors picked up Parvez Rasool for Team India for the upcoming Zimbabwe tour, they were creating a history of sorts. Parvez is the first cricketer from Kashmir valley to join Team India. This year, he also became the first Kashmiri cricketer to be picked up for IPL.Born February 13, 1989 in Bijbehara, Kashmir valley, Parvez Ghulam Rasool Zargar has been a talented cricketer right from his childhood. The right-handed batsmen has so far made 1003 runs in 17 first class matches and 178 runs in T20 matches. The all-rounder has also taken 46 wickets in first class matches. His best bowling figures in a first class match was 7/41.He bagged the IPL contract to play for Pune Warriors this year, making his debut against Kolkata Knight Riders at Pune on May 9 this year. He got Jacques Kallis' wicket. He next played against Mumbai Indians on May 12. Parvez learnt cricket from his coach Abdul Qayyum and played junior cricket for his state J&K. His brother Asif has played Ranji Trophy too. After a good Ranji season last year, Parvez played a warm-up one day match against England for India 'A'."It's every cricketer's dream to play for India and my dream has come true", said Parvez on hearing that he has been selected for Team India. Parvez is the fourth cricketer from Kashmir after Abid Nabi, Surendra Singh and Abdul Qayyum to be picked up for a national squad. The other three however could not make it to the senior team. "This year I had a good domestic season. I got 33 wickets and scored 594 runs in 7 matches. I got seven wickets for India A in a match against Australia", says Parvez.
