COLOMBO, Sri Lanka:  Sri Lanka's Mahela Jayawardene was run out for 165 after helping the hosts build a strong total on day two of the second test against South Africa, moving to 395-6 at lunch on Friday.

Jayawardene combined with debutant Niroshan Dickwella in a 100-run sixth-wicket stand before being run out by a direct throw from Alviro Petersen at fine leg while attempting a second run.

Dickwella was flown in from England, where he was representing Sri Lanka's `A' team, to replace out-of-form wicketkeeper Dinesh Chandimal and justified that selection by scoring an unbeaten 63. He survived an appeal and a review for caught behind when on 44.

Dilruwan Perera was the other not-out batsman at lunch, on 9. There was not much assistance for South Africa's seamers from the Sinhalese Sports Club pitch, but the spinners got the ball to turn consistently.

That should aid Sri Lanka, which has a spin-heavy bowling department, as opposed to South Africa's reliance on its strong pace battery. South Africa won the opening test in Galle and needs only a draw achieve a test series victory in Sri Lanka for the first time in 21 years.
