New Delhi: The champion of IPL in 2012 has begun the quest to become the leader in the ongoing seventh edition. Kolkata Knight Riders has definitely made the right start by defeating the defending champions Mumbai Indians comprehensively. The team has made some good buys in the player auction that was held earlier. Lets take a look whether the Sharukh Khan owned team can repeat its 2012 heroics. Lets take a look on the impact players in the KKR squad.Gautam Gambhir: The skipper of the team who has been one of the leading run-scorers in the IPL, the KKR skipper's good form will be vital to their championship bid. On his part, Gambhir would also want to make a comeback to the Indian team with some sound performances in this year's IPL. He joined the KKR unit in 2011 and has played 49 matches for the side. Gambhir has scored 1374 runs at an average of 31.22. His ability to attack as well as defend makes him a dangerous opener at the top.Jacques Kallis: The South African allrounder who has retired earlier from all forms of international cricket has been the perfect opening partner with Gambhir. He seems to enjoy the match and is a great asset for his team. Kallis has joined KKR in 2011 and was retained through ‘right to match'. He has played 49 matches for KKR and has scored 1216 runs at an average of 27.63.Sunil Narine: This mystery offspinner from West Indies seem to cast his magic even to the best of the game and is the only the second player to be retained by KKR alongwith the skipper Gambhir. He was brought by the KKR for a whopping $700,000 at the 2012 players' auction. He has played just 32 matches and had already taken 50 wickets thus becoming the quickest bowler in IPL to reach the landmark. He will be the trump card for KKR to regain the IPL title this season.Morne Morkel: The South African lanky pacer can bowl a barrage of steep deliveries in to the opposition batsman. KKR unit has brought this bowler in the player auction this season. The addition of Morne Morkel will definitely boost up the pace department of KKR. He has been the purple cap holder while he was with his earlier franchise Delhi Daredevils.Shakib Al Hasan: The allrounder from Bangladesh has been a valuable addition for the KKR unit. His round arm action is not easy to be picked up by the opposition batsman. He adds his value with his batting lower down the order and is also a good fielder.In sixteen matches that he has played he has taken a 24 wickets.Robin Uthappa : One of the members of the 2007 world T20 team that had own the world cup was picked up by KKR in this years player's auction. He will be tested and had to fight for a spot in the team because the other wicketkeeper Manvinder Bisla is alos a natural hitter of the cricket ball.Yusuf Pathan: The elder of the Pathan brothers has been selected by the KKR management despite his poor performance in the last edition of IPL. But saying this he is one of the few Indian batsmen who can hit the ball cleanly. He needs to get to his best and he can alone be the match winner for his team on any given day.
