IPL 2023: Ahead of the retention deadline, IPL franchise Delhi Capitals is set to release star players from its team. The retention deadline is 15th November and the teams have to give the list of retained players before that. The auctions for the 2023 season of IPL are set to take place in December 2022.
According to PTI, the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals is all set to leave star players like all-rounder Shardul Thakur, and wicketkeeper batters K S Bharat and Tim Seifert. The other expected players to be released are batters Mandeep Singh and Ashwin Hebbar. "Shardul is a premium all-rounder but his price tag was an issue. The others who are set to be released are Hebbar, Mandeep, Seifert and Bharat," an IPL source said as quoted by PTI.

Thakur was picked for 10.75 crores but was not very effective with the ball in 2022. He scored 120 runs and picked 15 wickets but gave runs at an economy of nearly 10 per over. With Rishabh Pant up in the ranks, wicket-keepers Seifert and Bharat did not get many chances. Seifert and Bharat played only a couple of matches and they warmed the benches in a major part of the tournament. Punjab batter Mandeep was also not given many chances. He featured in only three matches, scoring just 18 runs. Also, batter Hebbar could not get a game in the 2022 season.
As per reports, teams can retain up to 15 players in the list this time, while they will have to leave the rest 10 out. The total purse for each team in the 2023 auction will be 95 crores. The auction is likely to be held in December the BCCI is mulling to organise the auctions overseas this time. Reports quoted BCCI officials saying that there are five venues shortlisted for the IPL 2023 auctions. Istanbul, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad are part of the list.
