Elected to bat first after winning the toss, India got off to a worst possible start when all their first four batsmen went back when the score was just reading eight.
On a bouncy and seeming wicket, English fast bowlers led by James Anderson and Stuart Broad wrecked havoc. They had all four Indian batsmen caught behind the wicket. First to go was Gautam Gambhir who was brought in place of out of form Shikhar Dhwan. Broad had him caught behind the wickets for just four runs.
Much was expected from Murali Vijay who is among the few Indian batsmen who have managed to score runs on this tour, but he too fell to a swinging delivery of Anderson without even scoring his account.
