IND vs AUS 5th Test, Day 2 Highlights: Pant propels India's lead to 145, uncertainty over Bumrah lingers on

Ravindra Jadeja really went into his shell as it was a perplexing thought process and approach from the all-rounder seeing his partners get out playing defensive shots. This is not the wicket where a batter can settle down after biding time, one ball has your name and it will come and remove you at any point of time. But for now, India have both Jadeja and Washington Sundar in the middle as they continue to add a few runs and set a sizeable target for Australia to chase in the fourth innings.

Scott Boland, the machine, is ripping India apart. The pressure was building and Nitish Reddy has succumbed to it. He tried to hit out of trouble and handed it straight to a jumping Pat Cummins at short mid-off.

The big wicket goes for India. Pat Cummins brought himself in, bowled wider to Rishabh Pant and got the edge. India have lost their biggest wicket as this 61 off 33 will be remembered for years. Smashing knock. India five down now.

Rishabh Pant has smashed a 29-ball fifty, the second-fastest by an Indian, the fastest belongs to him as well as he gets to his milestone and is slowly taking India to a respectable score.

Rishabh Pant is living dangerously but has survived so far by going for his shots and the lead has gone past 100 for India. India are four down but Pant is keeping them in hunt. 

Debutant Beau Webster has his first wicket in Test cricket. With the pitch getting more and more difficult to play, Indian batters have started playing their shots so looking at Pant, Shubman Gill saw his opportunity in debutant Beau Webster and got a faint tickle towards the keeper and India are four down.

For the nth time, Virat Kohli gets out the very same way. Scott Boland is running through the Indian line-up and some. Another short of a good length on the fifth stump line, Kohli couldn't help but have a play at it and India are three down with Boland taking all the wickets. 

Another sensational delivery from Scott Boland ends Yashasvi Jaiswal's promising start. India go two down before reaching 50.

Scott Boland removes KL Rahul and gives Australia a much-needed breakthrough. KL Rahul scored 13 runs, Shubman Gill walks in next.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has made his intentions very clear. It is not a wicket where you will have to grind and that will guarantee a long time in the middle. It will not and Yashasvi Jaiswal was quick to make it very clear to the Australians that he will play his shots as he smashed four boundaries off Mitchell Starc in the very first over of the second innings.

KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are out in the middle and Mitchell Starc will have the new ball as India look to extend their slender lead into something bigger and decisive, especially without Jasprit Bumrah at their disposal, for now.

It was Mohammed Siraj, who took the final wicket as after going for a boundary he brought one in to shatter Scott Boland's stumps and India take a slender lead of four runs.

Prasidh Krishna is taking some big wickets and repaying the faith by playing him in Australia. After Steve Smith and Alex Carey, Krishna had drawn the half-centurion Beau Webster in and Australia are one wicket away from folding.

Nitish Reddy is making the ball talk. After Cummins, Reddy gets rid of Mitchell Starc. Reddy dug in short and Starc was surprised by the bounce, got the ball from the shoulder of the bat and straight to the second slip fielder. Australia are eight down now.

Nitish Reddy has struck. He was called on by stand-in captain Virat Kohli to do the holding role and it seems like he is in for more. Was going for runs on full delivery so came wider here and bowled on short of a good length and got the edge and Reddy has his SRH skipper Pat Cummins out of here.

Beau Webster has a fifty on debut as he has faced the challenges thrown by the pitch and the Indian bowlers and negotiated them rather masterfully. India need to break the game open from the other end as Webster is continuing to do well at one end. Also, no Bumrah will be yet another factor to take care of.

Jasprit Bumrah was out of the field in the latter part of the first session on the second day. Bumrah didn't come out on the field in the second session and was seen in his training gear. The reports from the ground suggest that Bumrah has left the ground with support staff and has likely gone for scans.

Ashwin knew and Prasidh delivers. He forced the error by coming round the wicket and Alex Carey missed it, seeing the ball shatter his off-stump. Australia are six down before reaching 150.

Jasprit Bumrah is off the field yet again and India have looked a bit toothless in the post-lunch session. Prasidh Krishna has yet again blown hot and cold and Alex Carey and Beau Webster are able to get the runs at will. The deficit has come down to less than 50.

Rohit Sharma was in interaction with the broadcaster Star Sports during the lunch break where he clarified that he stood down because his bat wasn't doing the talking. "This decision is not a retirement call, neither I'm stepping away. But I sat out of this game because I have not been scoring runs. But it's not a guarantee that I will not score runs even after five months or after two months. We have seen enough cricket to understand, that every minute, every second, every day life changes. I have belief in myself that things will change but at the same time, I have to be realistic as well."

Australia have crossed the 100 mark with five wickets still in the tank and trail by 84 runs at lunch. India will hope to get the remaining five wickets in not much time as the pitch has enough for both batters and bowlers for the visitors to make a match out of this.

And Prasidh Krishna strikes!! He just needed to pitch a bit fuller for some time to see the results and has induced the edge. The irritating 57-run partnership has ended as Steve Smith five short of achieving the 10,000-run milestone as India have their fifth wicket, fourth in this session. Australia 96/5

Steve Smith and Beau Webster have started to frustrate India with a quality partnership. Prasidh Krishna has lacked the zip and Bumrah in his second spell didn't trouble the Aussies much. On debut, Webster has looked like a start, very assured in his defence and India need to think out of the box to break this partnership.

Prasidh Krishna began his Australian tour with a corker of a delivery that hit on Steve Smith's gloves but has blown hot and cold since. Has troubled Smith and Beau Webster with a couple of deliveries here and there but has been too short and has been hit for a few boundaries. With the pitch doing so much, it will be better if he pitches full and let the surface do the rest.

Mohammed Siraj has the biggest wicket of the series!!! Siraj is on fire, he is off for the celebrations, Kohli and everyone else follows him. He has squared up Travis Head there. A full delivery and Head hit a boundary before that one. This time, Siraj pulls his length back and squared up Head, who could only see the edge fly off to KL Rahul at the second slip and Australia are in serious trouble now...

It was there! Sam Konstas was going to get out anytime. He was looking to attack anything and everything and this one was thrown wide from Mohammed Siraj, Konstas played at it and edged it straight to the gully and Jaiswal with safe hands holds on to it. India are on it. Australia are three down.

Sam Konstas is not shying away from the fight and is going for his shots. A positive shot down the ground followed by a reverse lap over third man. Indian bowlers and fielders are getting just a little jittery but they know the wicket is here, there, somewhere.

It's Bumrah again, his 32nd scalp in this series. Bumrah caught Labuschagne on the crease and the faint tick went through to the keeper. Labuschagne was casually strolling in his crease, the umpire was unmoved as well while the Indians were already celebrating. Bumrah quickly went for the review and the snicko showed a spike. India and Bumrah had their second. 

Sam Konstas and Marnus Labuschagne are out in the middle and Mohammed Siraj will begin the proceedings on the second day. The Indians ended the day on a high but they need to get nine more wickets and hence wouldn't want to get swayed by emotions and do the job at hand. Let's go!!

It is a bright and sunny day in Sydney. The wicket will settle down a bit today but there is still a lot of grass on the pitch and hence will keep bowlers in the picture. It will be yet another hard day of Test cricket for both batters and bowlers. 

The team just looks different with Jasprit Bumrah as the captain. Bumrah became the highest score for an Indian captain this series, yesterday and when India needed some thing to go their way, here was the highest wicket-taker of the series, leading by example, celebrating in naughty kid Sam Konstas' face, showing the Australians, that's how you do it. However, with such a low score on the board, Bumrah alone won't be enough and will need support from the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna at the other end.

It was an unusual gameplan from India with the bat after winning the toss. Yes, the green surface at the SCG was doing a fair bit and the overcast conditions assisted the faster bowlers but the Indian batters lacked in application and let the Aussie bowlers dictate the terms. The likes of Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja did well compared to the other batters but were too slow in their approach. They needed to get on with the game, like the last pair did as India added 37 runs for the last two wickets.

Welcome to the second day's coverage of the fifth and final Test between India and Australia from the Sydney Cricket Ground. It was a fiery end to the first day's play on Friday with all of the Indian players swarming around Sam Konstas, who definitely riled them up. Can the Indians keep their emotions check? Because there are nine more wickets to be taken and the visitors have 176 more runs to play with. Should be fascinating!
