Mumbai: West Indies are staring at yet another defeat as they lost three wickets for 43 in the second inning, still needing 270 runs to make India bat again on day 2 of 2nd test here Friday.
West Indies continued their pathetic display of batting in this series after India finish their first inning 495, with Pujara and Rohit contributing with centuries.
Set a daunting task on a turning track, West Indies once again started badly losing Powell when the score was just 15. Powell is to be blamed for his wicket as instead of seeing the day through he tried to loft Ashwin ovet the long off where Shami took a running catch. He made just 9 runs.
Since there were still few overs remaining for the day, Tino Best came as nightwatchman but he too departed after Ojha trapped him LBW. He too contributed 9.
After losing two quick wickets West Indies sent out their regular batsman Bravo but only to see him coming back with scoreboard reading 43. He was caught at slip by Vijay off Ashwin.
At stumps, West Indies were struggling at 43 for three in their second innings, still trailing by 270 runs with seven wickets in hand. With three full days left in the game, the visitors have to bat out of their skin to save the match.
Earlier Rohit Sharam became the third Indian to crack two hundred back to back after Mohammad Azharuddin and Saurav Ganguly. After Cheteshwar Pujara's hit 113, Rohit Sharma joined the party by hitting his second consecutive century. Rohit 113 came off 127 balls with eleven boundaries and three sixes.
For West Indies Shillingford once again took five wickets. He had taken five wickets in Kolkata also.
In the morning session batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar enthralled with a majestic 74 in his farewell knock as India put themselves on course for a clean-sweep by taking a mammoth 313-run first innings lead in the second and final Test against the West Indies here today.
Millions of Tendulkar's adoring fans waited for a last magical knock from his blade as the 40-year-old batting legend walked into the ground to resume his innings at an overnight 38. He seemed to be in a positive frame of mind as he played an array of breathtaking shots much to the delight of a packed
Wankhede stadium.
But the dream three-figure mark eluded the champion batsman in his farewell match.
Despite Pujara and Rohit's tons it was Tendulkar who hogged the limelight for the second day running with a sublime knock which included some of his trademark shots, which got rousing cheers from the crowd and a host of VVIPs including Congress vice-President Rahul Gandhi, state chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and Bollywood superstars Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan.
Silence descended at the Wankhede when Tendulkar was dfimissed when he thick-edged a Deonarine delivery to Darren Sammy at first slip. The crowd quickly recomposed itself to give Tendulkar a standing ovation as he trudged off the ground one last time.
