Suryakumar Yadav has officially broken Shikhar Dhawan's record for most runs in a calendar year for India after he surpassed the Delhi batter's tally of 689 runs from 2018 in the first T20I against South Africa on Wednesday. With back-to-back sixes in the seventh over saw him break the record.
Playing in his 21st match of 2022, the Indian star is already the highest scorer in the calendar year and did not show any mercy on the opposition. Despite losing Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma early, Yadav was at top of his game. He needed just eight runs to break the record set by Shikhar set in 2018 which he surpassed easily.

In the previous match, he went past Virat Kohli's tally of 641 runs which he had scored in 2016. Compared to Shikhar and Virat, Suryakumar has been excellent with his approach which has seen him score a hundred and four fifties in 2022.
So far in 2022 Yadav has scored five fifties and a hundred which has seen him being one of the best batters in 2022. As things stand, he is destined to become the first Indian to score 1000 T20I runs with still two matches in South Africa series and T20 World Cup to go.
The list features Virat on multiple occasions has been India's leading run scorer in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019. Rohit Sharma also features twice on the list in 2015 and 2021 while KL Rahul was India's highest runscorer in 2020.
