IND vs NZ 2nd Test Live Cricket Score: Conway-Ravindra frustrate India with steady partnership; hosts need wickets

India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Live Updates: For the first time in probably a decade, India are in a must-win situation in a home Test series. New Zealand with a performance of a lifetime set the cat amongst the pigeons by winning the first Test, forcing India to re-think their strategy with crucial World Test Championship (WTC) points on the line. There was some poor decision-making and captain Rohit Sharma accepted his mistake but it didn't absolve him of the errors India made, especially in the field when the hosts had New Zealand seven down for 251 before they went on to score 402 runs. A loss is a loss and India will be wounded and a bit desperate to start well in the second Test in Pune in order to take early advantage. Follow all the live updates of the IND vs NZ 2nd Test-

IND vs NZ 2nd Test Live: Play resumes, Conway gets to his fifty

A sumptuous drive through the covers leaning into his shot has got Devon Conway through to his half-century, his second in the series immediately after the lunch break. New Zealand are slowly going into 'should India start worrying' territory as wicket hasn't done much.

    Lunch!!

The opening session on Day 1 of the 2nd Test has ended and New Zealand are 92/2. A pretty solid start one would say for the visitors. A score around 250-300 will be huge as this pitch is already breaking down and staying low at times.

IND vs NZ 2nd Test Live: WICKET!! Ashwin gets his second

R Ashwin had gotten his second as Sarfaraz Khan's gut call worked for India as it made captain Rohit Sharma go for the review. The replay showed that the ball took Will Young's gloves on the way to Rishabh Pant's gloves and India have gotten their second wicket.

    New Zealand - 81/2 (26 overs)

IND vs NZ 2nd Test Live: New Zealand go past 50

Devon Conway is slowly growing into his innings and Will Young has started well as Indian spinners have got a couple of balls to turn but not many as New Zealand batters are playing themselves in nicely here.

IND vs NZ 2nd Test Live: India finally have the breakthrough... WICKET!!

The pacers didn't get any success but the spinner has struck straightaway and who else but R Ashwin! Ashwin got the ball to land in that good length area, which had the dark brown patch and the ball turned just enough for Tom Latham to miss and hit him in the line of the stumps.

    New Zealand - 34/1 (10 overs)

Conway not all comfortable so far

Akash Deep had a couple of outstanding deliveries trouble Devon Conway and he too is playing with soft hands with one of them coming off the bat quite often as he tries to negotiate the opening spells of the Indian seamers. Can India strike early?

So far, it has been a good start for New Zealand though! 30/0 (7 overs)

IND vs NZ 2nd Test Live: Latham, Conway get off to a steady start

The ball hasn't done much in the first few overs. A couple of them have moved a bit but not staggeringly to create any difficulty for the batters as both Devon Conway and Tom Latham have played the ball on the merit and India will be hoping for an early wicket.

Here we go! Tom Latham and Devon Conway are in the middle

IND vs NZ 2nd Test pitch report

It will be a dry surface. The pitch is made of black soil, as was the Bengaluru pitch, however, it is local black soil reckons Dinesh Karthik on air. Karthik noted that the surface is firm and has a lot more grass around the ends, near the stumps. As Karthik and Doull came onto the pitch a bit deeper, the colour of the pitch changed with no grass around the good length and the patch is also darker. Hence, the pitch is set to turn from the first day itself and batting first is the only right call.

New Zealand opt to bat after winning the toss

New Zealand have won the toss and opted to bat first in the second Test in Pune. Kiwi skipper Tom Latham suggested that the pitch was a bit drier with the colour different in the middle and on the ends and might take turn and hence, batting first when the conditions are the best was the correct option. Indian captain Rohit Sharma also wanted to bat first because of the dry nature of the surface.

Any changes in the playing XI?

India are expected to make a couple of changes to their line-up with Shubman Gill likely to come back and the change in pace combination as well with Mohammed Siraj not doing enough with the ball in home Tests.

India realised for the first time it's not all bed of roses

After eons, the Indian team realised that playing Test cricket at home is not always the bed of roses. Even if they have lost to Australia or England in the past few years, they have come back well but this is a three-match series. New Zealand might be tempted to go hard as they have the lead but they'll just have to be wary of getting overexcited and India will be keen to stamp their authority as well.
