IND vs ENG 1st Test Highlights: Tom Hartley ends with a 7-wicket haul as India lose to England despite a lead

Team India came undone in the last two days to suffer probably their worst loss in Tests at home in recent times given they were ahead by 190 runs at one point. It was a Test of two halves with India winning the first two days and England the last two and eventually the game as defensive captaincy, poor fielding and lack of application from the batters were key reasons for India's downfall in Hyderabad. Ollie Pope was at the helm of the proceedings which kick-started England's fightback with the bat. Pope smashed 196 in the second innings while stitching valuable partnerships with Ben Foakes, Rehan Ahmed and Tom Hartley and the latter proved his worth with the ball in the second as he registered figures of 7/62. Apart from that Ashwin-KS Bharat stand, India didn't like chasing the target at all and eventually they fell short by 28 runs and England took a 1-0 lead.

India Vs England 1st Test Live Score: Paras Mhambrey speaks

India's bowling coach Paras Mhambrey said that India's bowling was challenged on Day 3. "We were challenged, we knew how they were going to play, they're accessing different areas unlike the other teams when they come to the sub-continent. To be honest, we never thought that they would be rolled over like in the past, but we knew we would be challenged with our bowling," Mhambrey says ahead of the start of Day 4. He added that the team needs to deliver four good balls to get the remainder of the wickets.

"If I look at the bowling perspective, all we need is to bowl 4 good balls, as soon as it comes, it's better for us. It's not the right thing to think about keeping the lead down to 140-150, the right thing is to hit the right areas, land a chunk of balls in a good area and get those 4 good balls as early as we can, that's what we're thinking right now," he added.

    Joe Root on Ollie Pope

Root has heaped praise on Ollie Pope's masterclass. "The way that Popey has played today... honestly it's an absolute masterclass on how to bat in these conditions as an overseas player, someone that's not exposed to these surfaces day in and day out and to come back off a serious injury like he had in summer and have that amount of time out of the game and then put together that... I'm speechless," Root said after Day 3.

But thanks to a sensational unbeaten hundred from Ollie Pope, England are daring to dream. Daring to dream against a bowling line-up including the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel and also featuring Jasprit Bumrah.
