IND vs BAN 1st Test Highlights: Ashwin and Jadeja's heroics help India end Day 1 at 339/6

The umpires have called stumps after 80 overs as India have ended at 339/6. Ashwin scored his sixth Test century while Jadeja is closer to his 5th Test ton and is batting on 86.

Ravichandran Ashwin has scored his sixth Test century off just 108 balls. MS Dhoni also scored six Test centuries in 144 innings.

Ravichandran Ashwin has batted superbly today and is closer to his 6th Test century. India are 327/6.

India have bossed this session completely courtesy of Jadeja and Ashwin. They have taken the attack to Bangladesh and their bowlers had no answers. Can Ashwin get to his 6th Test century?

Ravindra Jadeja has brought up his half-century now and the match is running away fast from Bangladesh.

100 partnership is up between Jadeja and Ashwin. What a turnaround this is!! Excellent batting as runs are coming quickly now.

Ravi Ashwin has scored his 15th Test fifty. He has brought up his half-century off just 58 balls. What a counter-attacking knock from him!! Can he see off the day now?

India's spin duo has helped the team recover with the bat. This has been a wonderful partnership of 80 runs in just 89 balls and India are 224/6 after 57 overs.

Ashwin and Jadeja joined forces when India were struggling at 144/6 and the duo has added 64 runs in quick time. 200 is up for India! Bangladesh will have to be careful here in terms of not letting runs flow.

Another session that belonged to Bangladesh. 88/3 (the exact same as the first session) was the session scoreline as India despite Yashasvi Jaiswal's half-century, didn't really stitch a major partnership and let Bangladesh come into the game. Hasan Mahmud already has four wickets to his name while Mehidy Hasan and Nahid Rana picked a wicket each.

First wicket of the day to spin! India are in all sorts of trouble now as Mehidy Hasan has sent back the other set batter KL Rahul. Rahul couldn't keep it down and a good catch at short-leg by Zakir Hasan. A loud roar from the crowd as local boy R Ashwin arrives at the crease.

Nahid Rana was threatening enough to keep the batter and his team interested. He got Yashasvi Jaiswal to edge just short of the fielder before finally getting his man as India lose a set batter. Shadman Islam holds onto a special catch and India have lost half their side.

Yashasvi Jaiswal despite all the chaos happening in front and around him, has scored a magnificent fifty. India have been rescued a bit by Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant. Pant got out immediately after the lunch break but India will hope that Jaiswal can bat for a long time.

Hasan Mahmud is not letting the Indian batters settle. Immediately after the lunch break, Mahmud has struck and took the big wicket of Rishabh Pant who edged it straight to the wicketkeeper Litton Das for his third grab.

IND - 96/4 (25 overs)

Only 23 overs were bowled in the first session but the unbeaten 54-run stand between Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal has ensured that India recovered from the deep hole they were in at the start of the first session. 

Was it a chance? It definitely was! Shadman Islam needed to be a bit closer than he was as the ball bounced right underneath his hands as Takin Ahmed induced an edge and Rishabh Pant survives. Can he make it into a big one?

Despite the collapse earlier, Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal haven't been afraid to play their shots and have taken India's innings forward after the hosts found themselves in troubled waters.

Rishabh Pant's style of play is different. He might look weird while playing a few shots but when he middles the ball, the sight is so good for the fans. Jaiswal and Pant is slowly reviving India's innings. For now, the target will be to go unscathed till lunch. India are 55/3

Yashasvi Jaiswal has played a wonderful shot to the leg-side and that four has brought up India's 50. He is walking down the track for the last few balls and was able to middle the ball finally. 

Rishabh Pant has returned to playing Test cricket after 634 days and has played a cracking shot off the back-foot. There is no rust in it and the man is looking in good touch. He has to be careful though and make sure he respects the conditions too.

Rishabh Pant is off the mark off the 7th ball. They have run three but there was a lot of danger involved in it. It ended well for India thanks to a poor throw from the fielder. Pant and Jaiswal shouldn't be taking much risks now. A run-out is like a crime in Test cricket and especially at this stage when your team is three down.

Bangladesh pacers, Hasan Mahmud in particular had Indian batters play skip, hop and jump as he removed three top-order players including Virat Kohli as the hosts find themselves in choppy waters at the start of the Test season on a softish wicket with overcast conditions. India need a partnership, desperately.

Hasan Mahmud is running riot in Chennai. Bangladesh are coch-a-hoop as Virat Kohli has edged it straight to the wicketkeeper and India have lost three wickets. India are suddenly in muddy waters being 34/2 with Mahmud accounting for all three of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. Kohli chased a delivery outside the off-stump with hard hands, a bit loose from a player like him, and ended up handing a simple catch to Litton Das, a second for him.

Shubman Gill has gone for a duck as India continue to gasp for breath on a tricky Chennai wicket amid overcast conditions. Hasan Mahmud is troubling Indian batters and has gotten his second wicket with Gill edging it straight to the keeper Litton Das. Yashasvi Jaiswal has done well but India need others to play around him.

A couple of sumptuous off-drives through covers get Yashasvi Jaiswal going after India lost skipper Rohit Sharma. India need a bit positive approach to get things going on the first morning with the ball seaming around.

Rohit Sharma survived an LBW call against Hasan Mahmud in the last over with the pacer deceiving the Indian captain with a nipbacker. However, this time around Mahmud got the ball to move away a touch on length and Rohit edged it straight to the slip fielder and Bangladesh have gotten the early breakthrough.

The national anthems have been done and dusted and it is the time to go! Skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal will aim to give India a good start but will have to be a bit cautious with the ball expected to move early given the overcast conditions.

Nobody expected it but they did it! Bangladesh not only beat Pakistan for the first time in Test cricket but also won the series 2-0, only their second series victory away from home in the format. Bangladesh have got a good mix of seniors and youngsters and a good Test line-up at their disposal. Can they challenge India?

It's unusual that in a busy cricket calendar as in the current day and age, a team gets a break as long as more than a month but it gave the Indian team some time to rejuvenate and refresh before a long Test season, featuring as many as 10 games. 

It's a red soil wicket in Chennai, which means runs, turn and bounce. However, with a bit of residual moisture underneath as Dinesh Karthik mentioned on air, the seamer will get some help early on as it is a bit cooler at the start of the day with clouds in the sky. The temperatures are expected to increase to 33-34 and the spinners will come into the game as the match progresses but Indian batsmen will have to play the first session cautiously.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field against India in the first Test in Chennai on Thursday, September 19. It is a bit cooler and overcast at the MA Chidambaram Stadium and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma also wanted to field seeing the overhead conditions saying that the pitch looks a bit softer. This is the first time since 1982 that a captain has won the toss and opted to field in Chennai in a Test match.

It is 28 degrees and a bit cooler in Chennai and it seems like the captain winning the toss might opt to field.

India and Bangladesh have played 13 Tests against each other with India winning 11 out of them with two being drawn. India will start as favourites but Bangladesh can't be taken lightly.

India against Bangladesh, a fixture a few months ago wouldn't have many takers, however, with the 42-day long international break coming to an end and Bangladesh coming off winning a first-ever bilateral Test series against Pakistan 2-0, it should be a cracker.
