IND vs BAN 1st Test Live Score: Indian pacers run through Bangladesh line-up; visitors half their side down

Jasprit Bumrah has accounted for Mushfiqur Rahim now! This might end very quickly for Bangladesh it seems, as they have already lost five wickets now and they haven't even reached 50. Bumrah invited Rahim forward and caught him probing at second slip.

Bangladesh are not making any improvements after lunch. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has departed now. Mohammed Siraj drew Shanto forward and the left-hander was so much out of his crease that he couldn't afford not to poke at it and Virat Kohli takes a simple catch in the second slip.

63 runs were scored in the first session for the loss of seven wickets. India couldn't add much to their overnight total but Bangladesh have shot themselves on foot losing three wickets for just 26. Can the visitors make a recovery? They are in desperate need of a partnership.

The Indian team will be chuffed with their effort with the ball particularly as Bangladesh lost as many as three wickets in eight overs they batted. After India got to 376 with the bat, Akash Deep took a couple of wickets in as many deliveries to leave the visitors reeling at lunch. Can Bangladesh come back?

Bangladesh 26/3 (8 overs) - LUNCH

Akash Deep has sent back Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque in successive deliveries as he is on a hat-trick. Akash bowled on the off-stump angling-in and got the ball to move in just a bit and Zakir's middle-stump was a goner. Right after the same, Akash kept bowling the deliveries with inward movement and Mominul was early into his shot, got rapped on the pads and lost his off-stump as the pacer has two in two balls. 

Jasprit Bumrah has struck early and Bangladesh lose the first wicket. Bumrah was bowling from around the wicket and Shadman Islam expected the delivery to go away from him after pitching on the fourth stump line and he shouldered his arms. However, the ball came in and his off-stump was gone.

Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan are in the middle for Bangladesh as the visitors will be eyeing a good start after conceding 376 in the first innings.

From being 34/3 to 144/6 to the next wicket falling at 343, it was a tremendous recovery led by Indran and Chandran - the two Ravis - Ashwin and Jadeja. Ashwin scored his sixth Test ton while Jadeja missed out but India will take 376 any day of the week after being in the position they were on first morning in cloudy Chennai.

Hasan Mahmud becomes the first Bangladesh bowler to take a five-wicket haul in India in Test matches. Mahmud gets Bumrah to complete his fifer as India are dismissed for 376.

Taking Ahmed is running through India's tail and he has gotten the big wicket of R Ashwin. Ashwin tried to play in the air but got it from the underbat and straight to Bangladesh's skipper at mid-off.

Taskin Ahmed has struck once again. You live by the sword and you die by it. Akash Deep lived by that mantra and played a few good shots but went out playing shots and India have lost their eighth wicket.

Akash Deep has come out swinging. He hasn't been afraid to play his shots and till now, he has been able to get a few quick runs for the Indian team.

Team India has crossed the 350 mark. The only blemish so far on the day has been Ravindra Jadeja's wicket, otherwise Akash Deep has already begun well while Ashwin has been his aggressive self like he was on the first day.

Ravindra Jadeja, gets a standing ovation at Chepauk, his IPL homeground, after playing a magnificent knock of 86. Jadeja failed to add a single run to his overnight score and poked at Taskin Ahmed's sharply rising delivery outside the off-stump. Jadeja misses his century but still an outstanding knock.

IND - 344/7 (83 overs)

Taskin Ahmed is with the second new ball for Bangladesh and will aim to get his lines and lengths better while R Ashwin and R Jadeja aim to extend their partnership and India's hold over the match.

"It should be a good day for batting," reckons Dinesh Karthik on air mentioning that he did say that he felt a bit like London on the first day but it wasn't the case on the second day as it was much hotter, 30 degrees already, and that the temperature will only increase as the day progresses. The footmarks have started to take shape but with the sun beating down, it should help the batters. The moisture underneath the surface is still there but a bit less and since Bangladesh will take the new ball, it will assist the seamers at least for the first half an hour.

The England series was a fantastic one for the top-order, but the moment the conditions got a little favourable for the pacers, it came downhill very quickly and given one eye is on the Australian series, they will have to quickly pull up their socks.

Hasan Mahmud was the only bright spot for Bangladesh in what was eventually a tough day at the office with the ball. Mahmud with lengths just short of good length held his lines and lengths and good movement both ways in cloudy Chennai on the first day and since Bangladesh will take the new ball at the start of the second day, will hope for a similar result at least in first half an hour.

The pair of Ravis didn't let the Bangladeshi spinners settle and Ashwin, in particular, didn't shy away from playing his shots. Only Mehidy Hasan got a wicket but Shakib Al Hasan was plundered for 50 runs in his eight overs.

It was quite stark in the way how the opening day of the long Test season began for India and ended. It was a peak 'from Prithvi to Shikhar moment' (no pun intended) for India, who were 34/3 at one point and 144/6 at the other before Indran and Chandran - the two Ravis - led the side's fightback forcing Bangladesh to surrender. Ashwin took the attack to the opposition while Jadeja was solid as the two stitched an unbeaten partnership of 195 runs. Ashwin completed his ton and Jadeja is closing in on his.
