IND vs BAN 1st Test: India's veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara on Friday smashed his fastest hundred in Test cricket as India continued their dominance in the 1st Test. The Indian No.3 smashed a Test ton almost after four years. Notably, Pujara had last scored a Test ton on 3rd January 2019 against Australia. Pujara's ton came against Bangladesh came in 130 balls, which is his fastest ever. Following Pujara's ton, India declared their innings and gave a target of 513 to Bangladesh.
The Indian cricket team started the third day of the ongoing Test in some style. They scalped both remaining Bangladesh's wickets quickly and came into bat. Rahul and Gill started taking the Indian lead ahead. While Rahul could not score much, Gill went on to smash his maiden Test ton. Pujara partnered with Gill after Rahul fell and showed an expressive batting intent on a batting-friendly surface. He smashed the bowlers and went on to score his fastest-ever ton in Test and International Cricket. His 130 ball hundred was 16 balls lesser than his earlier fastest. Pujara had earlier smashed his fastest ton back in 2013 against West Indies in Wankhede. He had scored that ton in 146 balls.
India scored 258/2 in their second innings. Before Pujara, Gill smashed his maiden Test ton. The young Indian opening batter had earlier managed to score 91 during India's historical Test win against Australia in 2021. In the ongoing match, India declared just after Pujara smashed the ton and gave a target of 513 to Bangladesh. The hosts have walked out to bat and are on 42/0 at the end of Day 3. India will want to bowl Bangladesh on Day 4 of the Test and take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.
