It will be interesting to see how Kohli and Gill take this Indian innings forward. They would be wary of getting into a shell, but would also want to end the day without losing any further wickets. Interesting passage of play coming up.

Pujara's wicket at the end of this session makes this one a draw. Runs dried up a bit in this session, but Gill would now be expected to accelerate a bit during the last session. How will Kohli play? Stay tuned. We'll be right back.

What a player! What a hundred. Excellent knock this, from Shubman Gill. His first at home. Brilliant stuff from the young man and the accolades just keep coming for him. It wouldn't be an overstatement to say that we are officially entering the Gill era of Indian cricket.

Well, this is the Gill we all know. A flurry of boundaries and he enters the 90s in style. Can he make it count and get to the three-figure mark? 

It has been more than an hour since this session started and India have just added 34 runs to their total before Lunch. They are certainly not looking for a win here, are they? Strange performance this. 

I don't know what has happened here, but Gill and Pujara seem to have gone in a shell here. Both were pretty positive in the morning session, but are now playing really slowly. What would be the thinking behind this? 

Both batters look at ease. Gill, in particular, has been impressive and looks all set to get a big one today. Can Australia stop him? The way he is batting, only a silly mistake from his end can lead to his downfall.

Alright, Lunch's over. Gill and Pujara would like to settle a bit again before getting into their free-flowing selves. Can Australia get one of them quickly? Let's find out.

India are 129/1 and the teams head for Lunch. India were 36/0 overnight and have added close to 100 runs at the loss of a single wicket. Great session for India. Australia will need to be careful here. Gill and Pujara can nullify Australia's advantage in no time in the second session. 

50 is up for Shubman Gill and he has hardly put a foot wrong here. He has been tremendous against Starc, as well as the spinners. What a player he is turning out to be. Some of his shots against Starc, in particular, have been awe-inspiring.

The pitch, as of yesterday, didn't really have any demons, but as we head towards Lunch on Day 3, the signs have started to show up. Lyon is getting some good turn. It is only going to deteriorate from here on. Pujara and Gill have used good footwork till now, but one mistake is all it will take to throw it away. Ask Rohit Sharma.

Well, cricket is a great leveller. Just now, I was about to update this blog with the news that Rohit Sharma has completed 17000 international runs, but alas, the update is something different.  Australia have got the first breakthrough and it is that of the Indian skipper. 

Mitchell Starc is on fire here. He is bowling absolute jaffas and it is a treat to watch him bowl when he is in his zone. Rohit and Gill though, are taking him on with equal force. Fasten your seatbelts. It is going to be a wild ride.

Well, Starc is putting his back in every delivery and Gill is more than happy to take him on. We have a battle on our hands here and it is as riveting as it comes. Bring it on.

Hello & welcome to the live blog of Day 3 of the 4th Test between India and Australia. I am Kartik Mehindru, and I will be taking you through all the latest updates throughout the game.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill played pretty nicely during the last few overs on Day 2, and hardly looked troubled. The pitch doesn't really have any ghosts, and unless a certain Nathan Lyon spurs a storm, Australia may as well be looking at a long hard day on the field.
