Australia’s Ashton Agar is set to return home to feature in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh Cup after a lack of playing time in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Agar, 29, will join fellow stars like Josh Hazlewood, David Warner, Mithcell Swepson and Pat Cummins on their way back home for various reasons. CA is yet to name a replacement for any of the injured players while Cameron Green is set to feature in the Indore Test.
Agar to feature in Sheffield Shield
While the rumors were hot regarding the departure of Agar from India, it was confirmed on Wednesday, February 22 that he will return to the Western Australia camp and feature in the domestic cups. It is reported that Agar will play in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh Cup which are currently held in the tail-end of Australia summer.
With the rise of Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann in the team Agar’s chances of featuring in the series were deemed surplus. Along with Agar, Lance Morris is also expected to return Down Under to play in the Sheffield Shield as they will probably not feature in the Indore and Ahmedabad contest.
Agar to feature in ODI series?
As things stand, it is expected that Agar will board his flight to India in March for the ODI series which kickstarts on March 17. The first ODI will be played in Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium and will likely see his inclusion in the team.
On the flip side, the Aussies are set to name West Australian opener Cameron Bancroft as David Warner’s replacement. The left-handed batter was ruled out of the series after sustaining a hairline fracture to his elbow. Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Swepson are also in Australia due to various reasons before the Indore Test starts on March 1.
