Ahmedabad, Feb 19: The anti-corruption wing of International Cricket Council (ICC) would maintain a vigil on the players in World Cup to ensure that they are not influenced by anyone, a top police official said here today.
"A few restrictions have been imposed on the players as well as on the persons meeting them during the course of their stay for World Cup matches," Joint Commissioner of Police Ahmedabad Satish Sharma said.
"ICC has sought help of the police in ensuring that no unwarranted persons find entry in hotels where the players are putting up, and we are supporting them," he said.
"But, it is the ICC which lays down the guidelines for players that whether they can go out of hotels or not and who can meet them," Sharma said.
The ICC officials and team security officers are in touch with our officers, he said adding that the prime duty of the police is to provide security cover and we have done that.
On February 21, the first match of ICC World Cup-2011 in Ahmedabad is scheduled to be played between Zimbabwe and Australia at the Motera stadium here.
The district police has made an elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident during the match.
"The security at the stadium, hotel and route to be taken by players has been beefed up. CCTV cameras have been installed at the stadium and entry shall only be allowed after frisking," Sharma said.
Certain items like mobile phones, water bottles, radio, tiffins would not be allowed in the stadium, he said.
As a precautionary measure, one platoon of commando force has been deployed, besides three company of State Reserve Police(SRP), 2 Superintendent of Police(SP), 6 Dy SP, 21 police inspectors, 100 Sub-inspectors, 75 women constable and 600 policemen.
The police is also maintaining surveillance on the bookies, officials said. PTI
