He is the fourth Indian bowler after Kapil Dev in 1989, Maninder Singh from December 1987-November 1988 and Kumble to have claimed the No1 bowler spot in ODIs.
Jadeja made his first Under-19 appearance for India in 2005 at the age of 16. He was picked in the Indian squad for the 2006 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka. He was the vice captaion of the 2008 victorious U-19 Indian cricket World Cup team.
Jadeja represents Saurashtra in first-class cricket, and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He caught the attention of the national selectors with his strong all-round showing in the 2008–09 Ranji Trophy.
