GT vs SRH: Hardik Pandya's Gujarat Titans became finally secured a spot in the IPL 2023 playoffs as they registered their 9th win of season against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Hardik Pandya's men defeated Aiden Markram-led SRH comfortably and also confirmed a top two finish in the tournament. With this SRH's chances of reaching the top four have ended and they are out of the tournament.
GT defeated SRH by 34 runs as they successfully defended their total of 188 against a struggling Hyderabad batting line up. Apart from Heinrich Klaasen and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, none of their batters made any notable contributions. For GT though, Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma were clinical with the ball and the duo shared four wickets each in SRH's off colour show.
First instance of pacers dominating a game like this
This was the first instance where the pacers of both the teams dominated an IPL game like this. For the first time pacers have taken 17 wickets in an IPL game. SRH's Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, T Natarajan and Fazalhaq Faroorqi took 8 wickets in all. Whereas the GT pacers Mohammed Shami, Mohit Sharma and Yash Dayal combined for 9 wickets in the game.
In SRH's poor outing with the bat, Klaasen and Bhuvneshwar combined to make 68 runs for the 8th wicket. Klaasen hit a 44-ball 64, whereas Bhuvneshwar scored 27 off 26 balls. The match also witnessed Shubman Gill scoring a sparkling hundred. It was his first hundred in IPL ever and first for a GT player. GT cored 188 in their batting. Their batting also had only two shining stars in the form of Gill and Sai Sudharsan. Gill hit 101 off 58 balls and Sai scored 47 off 36. No other GT batter crossed the single digit mark. Bhuvneshwar scalped 5 wickets.
