Wriddhiman Saha got a reprieve early through DRS but not this time as he top-edged a Kagiso Rabada delivery straight into the hands of skipper Shikhar Dhawan to hand the Punjab Kings their first breakthrough.

Punjab Kings have won the toss and chosen to field first. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan reckoned that the ground has been good for chasing initially and the surface looked pretty hard and good to stay the same throughout the 40 overs. Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill also wanted to bowl first but didn't mind going on first with the bat.

Pitch 6, the centre one will be used for the GT vs PBKS clash and is a bit different from the first two games. It gripped and turned and stayed slow in the first two games in Ahmedabad but this surface, a mixture of black and red soil, was used four times in IPL 2023 and the chasing team won three out of them. A hard surface with plenty of runs in it, should be a cracker.

Livingstone's injury will be a factor of sweating over for the Punjab Kings, otherwise, if all are fit, the Men in Red will continue with this first-choice line-up unless they would want to look at Nathan Ellis on Ahmedabad surface, which has played a bit slow this year as compared to 2023.

It's a pretty meta fixture for Shubman Gill as he will be playing for Gujarat Titans against a team based out of his native place at his adopted home ground with the franchise, where he has mounted runs for fun. 736 runs at 61.7 and a strike rate of 157 at the Narendra Modi Stadium is an outrageous record and Gill will be keen on to extend the same.

It might be an emotion-filled game for Shubman Gill, whose captaincy journey for Gujarat Titans take on the franchise belonging to a state and the place where he belongs, Punjab and consisting of many of his friends and domestic teammates. Many Punjab fans wanted Gill to play for the Kings in IPL before the new franchise Titans decided to draft him in and now have made him skipper after just two years.

At 102 for no loss with all 10 wickets in hand both the openers set, the Punjab Kings would have fancied their chances of chasing a target of 200 against the Lucknow Super Giants. However, an injury to Liam Livingstone coupled with Mayank Yadav's surprise pace led to the Kings' downfall and fell short. Can they turn it around against the Titans?

The last year's finalists and the 2022 champions Gujarat Titans despite being with a depleted squad, have found players who have put their hand up in certain situations to win two out of two at home in Ahmedabad and that will be their objective yet again on April 54 against the Punjab Kings.
