St. George's, Grenada: Joe Root finished 182 not out as England built an imposing first-innings lead of 165 over the West Indies on the fourth day Friday of the second cricket test.
England was all out a half-hour before lunch for 464 in reply to the West Indies' 299.
By the first interval, the West Indies was 22 for the loss of left-handed opener Devon Smith, deflecting a delivery from Jimmy Anderson into his leg stump on 2.
Kraigg Brathwaite was at the crease on 5, and Darren Bravo on 15.
Root scored 64 of the 91 runs put on by England on another clear, sunny morning. He added two sixes to the two he hit on the previous day, and four fours to his 13. When the innings ended, he had batted for 229 balls.
While Root passed 2,000 runs in his 24th test, second quickest in England history to Alastair Cook, he would have felt disappointed by teammates who failed to help him reach a career-best tying double century.
Run outs accounted for two of his last three partners.
After wicketkeeper Jos Buttler was stumped off legspinner Davendra Bishoo in the fourth over of the day for 13, Chris Jordan was left inches short of his crease on Jason Holder's pinpoint throw from the deep to wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin.
The innings ended when Anderson was run out for 2, complacently failing to ground his bat.
In between, Bishoo claimed his fourth wicket, Stuart Broad caught for 0 at slip off his glove. It was a marathon effort by Bishoo, playing his first test in three years, sending down 51 overs and conceding 177 runs.
