England's most experienced spinner on their ongoing tour of India, Jack Leach has been ruled out for the remainder of the Test series and it leaves the Three Lions with a fairly inexperienced bunch of spinners comprising Rehan Ahmed, Shoaib Bashir and Tom Hartley.
A left knee injury to Leach has resulted in the unfortunate development for England as they prepare and plan to claw their way back into the series after a 106-run loss in Visakhapatnam.
Leach will fly back to England and "work closely with the England and Somerset medical teams in respect of his rehabilitation".
Notably, England have decided not to name a replacement for Leach and, therefore, will be playing in the series with the same set of spinners as they have in the squad.
Leach got injured while trying to prevent a boundary on day one of the first Test in Hyderabad. The injury flared up the next morning and could only manage 36 overs in the entire game.
Meanwhile, the five-match series is currently poised at 1-1 with three games left. England have given stiff competition to the Indian team thus far and that has left many surprised as their spinners have played a total of 44 matches at the first-class level.
Hartley is now the most experienced spinner in the squad with 22 first-class games, followed by Rehan (15 matches) and Bashir (7 games).
However, the English spinners have made up for their inexperience with their guile and ability to make the most out of the conditions in India. The third Test of the series will be played at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
