Put in to bat, England got off to a good start provided by skipper Alastair Cook and Ian Bell added 87 in 12 overs against inconsistent Australian bowling, which was followed by another half-century stand between Bell and Ben Stokes.
For Asutralia James Faulkner took four wickets for 67 runs.
Australia has already won the five match series by 3-0 and England would hope to stop another white wash after 0-5 defeat in Ashes.
