Ashes 2023: The England Women's Cricket Team on Wednesday named its starting XI for the one-off Ashes Test against Australia women at Trent Bridge. The England team will be led by Heather Knight, whereas there are two debutants from the English side. The match is set to begin on June 22.
Lauren Filer will make her England debut, while Danni Wyatt will be playing in her maiden Test game for England. Notably, Alice Capsey and Alice Davidson-Richards have been removed from the Test squads.
Ashes Test to be a five-day for first time
The one-off Ashes Test will be played as a five-day game for the first time after being a four-day affair earlier. This Test will mark the start of a multi-format series.
Filer, who will be making her England debut, recently took part in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy 2023 and Charlotte Edwards Cup. She scalped four and five wickets, respectively.
The Women's Ashes will feature the one-off Test and three ODIs and three T20Is. The T20I series will follow the Test match and will kick start on July 1. The three-match ODI series will be played from July 12.
Alyssa Healy to lead Australia in Lanning's absence
Meanwhile, Australia are yet to announce their playing XI for the contest. But it was earlier confirmed that Alyssa Healy will be leading the Australian team as Meg Lanning will miss the Ashes tour due to medical reasons. Tahlia McGrath will be the vice-captain of Australia.
