Canberra, Australia: England captain Alastair Cook sank deeper into a batting slump on Tuesday when he was dismissed second ball as his team made 264-8 batting first in a 50-overs match against the Prime Minister's XI.

The traditional tour match at Canberra's Manuka Oval was seen as a chance for Cook and England to recover form after their 5-0 Ashes test defeat and their losing start to a four-match one-day series. England has lost six matches in a row against Australia and Cook's poor batting form -- 246 runs in 10 test innings -- has been a stark element in those failures.

But Cook couldn't shake off his malaise Tuesday, scoring only one run before he was caught behind from the bowling of 37-year-old retired fast bowler Brett Lee.
