Deccan Chargers bowled out Royal Challengers Bangalore for 138 to register a thrilling 13-run victory in the Indian Premier League encounter at VCA Stadium in Jamtha, Nagpur on Monday night.Chasing 152-run target, Royal Challengers lost wickets at regular intervals in the later part of their innings to be fizzled out in 19.4 overs.
Bangalore lost Cameron White (4), Virat Kohli (3), Ross Taylor (1) and Jacques Kallis (27) in quick succession to be reduced to 110/6 in 16.2 overs and lose momentum in their chase. Pragyan Ojha dismissed Kallis in the fourteenth over, to end the orange capper's long vigil of 37 balls in which he hit only one four.
Rahul Dravid (49) and Kallis put on 74-run partnership to lead the Bangalore run chase after losing Manish Pandey (0) early.
Dravid hit eight boundaries in his well paced inning off just 35 balls before he got out in the eleventh over.
Defending 152-run target, Ryan Harris gave Deccan an early breakthrough when he got rid of Pandey with the first ball of the match.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma (51) and Monish Mishra (41) added 82 runs after early blows to help Deccan post 151/6 against Royal Challengers.
Sharma completed his fifty in 43 balls and hit seven boundaries in his 46-ball inning. He also put on a valuable 35-run partnership with Andrew Symonds (19) after the departure of Monish in the thirteenth over.
After losing three wickets early, Sharma and Monish resurrected the Deccan innings against Bangalore after Steyn wreak havoc in the beginning of the match.
Monish hit a four and three sixes in his quick-fire 30-ball 41 inning before being run out by Steyn in the thirteenth over.
Bangalore speedster Dale Steyn started the bowling with real fire as he scalped T Suman (0) and skipper Adam Gilchrist (0) in consecutive balls of the first over. He then removed Herschelle Gibbs (12) in his second over to reduce Deccan to 14/3 in 2.3 overs.
