Sydney: Ashton Turner scored 73 from 46 balls and took two wickets to lead a Cricket Australia XI to a 22-run win over South Africa in a Twenty20 tour match on Sunday.
CA XI captain Turner hit three sixes and seven fours in an 88-run fourth wicket partnership with Seb Gotch to help the home side to 189-5 in 20 overs. Gotch hit 40 from 25 balls.
Kyle Abbott took 2-22 for South Africa, dismissing Turner and James Bazley with successive deliveries.
Ben Ashkenazi then took 3-21, James Muirhead 3-25 and Turner 2-21 as South Africa was bowled out for 167 in 18.5 overs. Rilee Rossouw top-scored with 47 from 29 balls -- hitting three sixes and four boundaries -- while Wayne Parnell made 35 from 12 deliveries.
Parnell hit four sixes and two fours, putting on 42 for the eighth wicket with Ryan McLaren (26) and raising hopes of a late South Africa revival. But Ashnekazi returned to claim Parnell's wicket and snuff out the last resistance.
South Africa named a weakened side for the match at the North Sydney Oval, captained by J.P. Duminy but missing most of the Proteas' leading players who are preparing for a five-match one-day series against Australia.
