Colombo, Oct 3: Police early this morning arrested three British women from hotel rooms of West Indies players, including batsman Chris Gayle, sources said.
At the Cinnamon Grand Hotel here, three British women were arrested by police bodyguards assigned to protect the West Indies players.
The women were taken to the police station for interrogation.
"Ministerial Security Division (MSD) guards assigned to protect the players carried out the arrest and the three women were handed over to the Kollupitiya police station for further investigations," Colombo police said in a statement.
The three British women were reported to be guests of Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Smith, a senior hotel official said.
The West Indies players were staying on the seventh floor rooms of the hotel, and the hotel official said, the players' security were not compromised.
No comment was immediately available from the ICC or the West Indies team.
West Indies will play Australia in the semi-finals on Friday.
Police said they were awaiting instructions from the ICC to decide whether they should press charges.
