New Delhi: Come Saturday, Dec 19 and West Indies opening batsman Chris Gayle will etch his name in the record books of cricket. The giant batsman from Jamaica will come out to bat for Melbourne Renegades at Brisbane in the Big Bash League (BBL) with a ‘golden' bat.

Yes, it is true. 'Spartan', the company which manufactures bats for Chris Gayle have come up with a special gold-coloured bat for Gayle.

He is known all over the world for the huge sixes, some that travel even further than 100 meters when they are struck by Gayle. This time around though, Gayle's fans may be in for a special treat; something that cricket hasn't seen before.

Cricket fans will hope to see the brute force of Chris Gayle when he comes to the crease tomorrow with his new golden bat.

Gayle had hinted of the arrival of his unique weapon of destruction earlier this month with a tweet. “Wow...2 brand new babies I'm taking with me until my gold bat in Australia,” he tweeted.

A first in cricket history, the bat will have a light spray of gold colour over the bat. Meanwhile the organisers of BBL Cricket Australia (CA) has issued a statement stating, “No issue as long as Gayle's bat complies with Laws of Cricket".

Cricket Australia said that as long as Gayle's gold bat was wooden, there should be no problem with its legality.
