London, Jun 7 : In a low-scoring thriller at the Oval here today, West Indies came from the brink to inflict a two-wicket defeat on Pakistan in their first match in the ICC Champions Trophy.

Pakistani skipper Misbah ul-Haq's unbeaten 96 runs went waste, as the other batsmen caved in before the West Indies attack. Pakistan were skittled out for 170 runs in 48 overs.

In reply, West Indies made 172 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 40.4 overs.

Opener Nasir Jamshed made 50 runs and was caught by Rampal off Narine. With the team collapsing like a pack of cards, skipper Misbah held fort till the end, and took Pakistan's score to 170 runs.  Roach and Narine took three wickets each.

In reply, West Indies  began with a flourish with opener Chris Gayle making 39 runs before he was clean bowled by Saeed Ajmal.  Marlon Samuels made 30 runs before he was stumped by Kamran Akmal off Mohd Hafeez's ball.

With the exit of Samuels, West Indies were in dire straits at 94 for 5, before Kieron Pollard and the tailenders stepped in and stemmed the rot. Pollard made 30 runs before he was caught by Kamran off Wahab Riaz's ball.

Mohammed Irfan took 3 wickets, while Wahab and Saeed Ajmal took two wickets each.
