New Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) want Jagmohan Dalmiya to step down as president because the 75-year-old's health is not good enough due to which he is unable to handle the responsibility.

Indian Express reported that the BCCI could see a new president after its Annual General Meeting slated for September this year.

Dalmiya, a veteran administrator, hasn't been keeping well for a while.

Many in the BCCI feel that Dalmiya's relinquishing the job will ensure smooth running of the cricket body.

Dalmiya returned as BCCI chief after a gap of 10 years when he was elected unopposed in March.

The report claimed that BCCI officials will soon ask Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to request Dalmiya to step down.

It also stated that Dalmiya's son Avishek recently started looking after the BCCI's day-to-day affairs.

In case Dalmiya steps down, Maharashtra Cricket Association president Ajay Shirke, who has served as the board's treasurer before, could emerge as one of the strong candidates for the post.

Anurag Thakur, technically,  is working both as president and secretary in BCCI at present.

The BCCI will be hosting the ICC T20 World Cup next year.
