Hyderabad, Oct 11: Jonny Bairstow cracked 104 not out and Scott Borthwick claimed 5-31 to power England XI to a massive 253-run victory over Hyderabad XI in a practice game Tuesday ahead of the tourists' limited overs series against India.
Middle-order batsman Bairstow's 53-ball knock, during which he smashed eight sixes and six fours, helped England post an imposing 367-4 in its 50 overs. Leg-spinner Borthwick then ripped through the batting as Hyderabad was bowled out for 114 in 35.3 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium.
With captain Alastair Cook (85), Jonathan Trott (74) and Craig Keiswetter (71) also striking form, the England team gained valuable batting practice ahead of the first ODI against India in Hyderabad on Friday.
Bairstow plundered his first 50 off 35 balls and the second off only 18 as he reached his century off the last ball of the innings by hitting seam bowler Ashish Reddy for six over long-on.
The 22-year-old Bairstow shared in a 143-run stand for the fourth wicket with Trott, after Cook and Kieswetter had opened the innings with a 159-run partnership.
Kevin Pietersen's 10 was the only cheap dismissal in the England innings.
Later, Borthwick accounted for five of the top six batsmen in the Hyderabad lineup during his impressive 10-over spell.
