Melbourne: Brad Haddin brought up a defiant half century before Australia was dismissed for 204 on Saturday, trailing England by 51 runs on the third morning of the fourth Ashes test.
Haddin and Nathan Lyon added 40 runs for the final wicket to boost Australia's chances before Haddin became Jimmy Anderson's (4-67) fourth wicket of the match, caught behind off a miscued pull.
Starting the day on 164-9, Haddin disregarded the dire state of the Australian scoreboard, smashing 65 off 68 balls with seven fours and a six. No. 11 batsman Lyon contributed an unbeaten 18 off 34 balls.
England begins its second innings in hot and sunny conditions at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
