1998, the golden year of Sachin with 12 centuries

New Delhi: 1998 stands out to be the golden year for master blaster Sachin Tendulkar who scored 12 centuries during this period, highest being 177 against Australia led by Steave Waugh. The Don Bradman of modern era, Sachin Tendulkar has scored hundred centuries so far in test and ODI, a record most unlikely to be surpassed in near future. Despite amazing achievements sachin still seems hungry for more. Sachin first century of year 1998 was unbeaten 155 against Australia on March 9 at Cheapauk. Before the match there was a debate who is greater Sachin or Warne and Sachin settled it by hitting, pulling and driving all over the park. Little master's inning finally set up the Indian win. His second century of this year has been the highest also. He scored 177 once gain against Australia at Bangalore on March 26. Though India lost the game but he was once again severe on Warne. Sachin was on rapage, butchering Aussies bowlers. On April 7 at Kanpur, he made 100 studded with seven sixes. So ruthless was sachin that captain Steave Waugh said that they were losing to Tendulkar. On April 22, Sharjah witnessed one of the great ODI innings when Sachin hit 143 against Australia. Poor Warne, once again at the receiving end, was decimated. April 24 was the day Warne will never ever be able to erase from his memory. On this day at Sharjah, Sachin blasted 134 and Warne had nightmares after this inning. Another superb knock from little master won India Coca-Cola Cup. At Eden Garden on May 31, Sachin scored unbeaten 100 against Kenya. Though Kenya was and still is considered minnows, but his century came under hot and humid condition. His shoes remained wet for three days. In the Singer-Akai trophy final at Colombo on July 7, Sachin scored 128 against host Sri Lanka and helped India win. On September 26, at Bulawayo, in the first match of Zimbabwe tour, Sachin once again proved why he is one of the greatest batsmen with his majestic 127. The first ICC Champions Trophy was held in Dhaka. On a big stage, Sachin, with full control and aggression, hit 141 and the opposition was Australia. It was October 28. The year was nearing to end but Sachin's hunger for runs was still alive. On November 8 at Sharjah, Sachin was at his his best when he scored 118 not out chasing Zimbabwe's modest total of 196. It was his 20th ODI ton. At Sharjah on November 13, sachin had a score to settle with Zimbabwe bowler Henry Olonga who dismissed Sachin earlier and made some comments. Sachin hit him for sis sixes while reaching 124. Sachin scored 113 against New Zealand at Wellington on December 29 . Though India lost but his century was made in a very tough condition.
