With Sunrisers Hyderabad’s maiden IPL title win, Yuvraj made a unique record

Yuvraj became the only player to win the Under-19 World Cup (2000), Champions Trophy (jointly with Sri Lanka in 2002), T20 World Cup (2007), World Cup (2011) and finally the IPL 2016.

New Delhi: The maiden IPL title win of Sunrisers Hyderabad was very special for Yuvraj Singh as he waited for nine seasons to lift an IPL trophy. But, there is something else that made Hyderabad’s victory more extraordinary for the left-handed batsman.

With SRH’s win on Sunday, Yuvraj became the only player to win the Under-19 World Cup (2000), Champions Trophy (jointly with Sri Lanka in 2002), T20 World Cup (2007), World Cup (2011) and finally the IPL 2016.

India’s limited-over team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Test skipper Virat Kohli have four of these accomplishments each. While Kohli has never lifted an IPL trophy, Dhoni has never won the U-19 World Cup.

Yuvraj Singh’s anticipation for lifting an IPL trophy ended after nine long years – he has never been a part of an IPL title winning team. In fact, it was the first time that he played in the final of the cash-rich league.

After Hyderabad’s triumph, the 35-year-old Yuvraj dedicated the maiden title to his teammate Ashish Nehra, who missed out the latter half of the tournament after sustaining a knee injury.

“It is an amazing feeling to win an IPL Trophy. I have won the World Cups but never won an IPL trophy. I have been playing this tournament for eight years now but never won it. Tonight that moment has finally come,” said Yuvraj after Sunrisers defeated RCB in the IPL season 9 final.

"I had never tasted the sweetness of an IPL trophy and this is something really amazing. At the moment this trophy will go right on top in my trophy cabinet. This one will go along with my World Cup victories," he further added.

Yuvraj had missed most of SRH’s early matches after sustaining an injury during India's league game against Australia in the World T20.
