The 2019 IPL auction witnessed a rare sight when an uncapped Indian player became a million-dollar baby. Varun Chakravarthy, the Tamil Nadu born player became the shock entree of the IPL auction going for a final selling price of INR 8.4 Crores to Kings XI Punjab after an aggressive bidding war.
The 26-year-old Varun's IPL 2019 bid equalled the highest bid of Jayadev Unadkat and became the first uncapped player to get 6 Crore+ in the auction pool.
Once a professional architect, Varun has been a part of Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings camps as a net bowler where he was the protege of the mystery spinner Sunil Narine of KKR.
Varun has been a sensation in domestic cricket tournaments as he was the second highest wicket taker with 22 wickets in the 2018 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He was also the most economical bowler in the 2018 Tamil Nadu Premier League season. Until last year, Varun was just a fourth division player, but now the tables have turned for him as he got the biggest amount in the IPL 2019 auction.
Shivam Dube
Apart from Varun, the other uncapped sensation in IPL auction was 25-year old Shivam Dube who went for a hefty INR 5 Crores. He made his List A debut for Mumbai in the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The all-rounder will join Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore for IPL 2019. Dube got the limelight recently when he hit five sixes off five balls against Baroda's Swapnil Singh in the Ranji Trophy match.
The left-arm batsman has also been in excellent form for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. He is currently Mumbai’s second-highest run-getter with a tally of 489 runs.
