West Indies fast bowler Shannon Gabriel will be banned for the second Test against Bangladesh next week following a second serious breach of the player code of conduct within two years.

The International Cricket Council announced the suspension Friday after Gabriel pleaded guilty to making deliberate physical contact with Bangladesh opening batsman Imrul Kayes on the first day of the first test.

The ICC's match referee David Boon and the on-field umpires deemed that the Gabriel's contact with Kayes, after bowling a delivery in the eighth over of the test, was avoidable.

The West Indies paceman had received three demerit points during a test against Pakistan at Jamaica in April last year and the two demerit points he received in Chittagong meant an automatic suspension of either a test match or two one-day internationals, whichever was scheduled first.

Gabriel was the West Indies' most successful bowler in the first innings, returning 4/70.
