Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman or VVS Laxman - the former India batsman and a magician with the wrists - turned 43 today. Laxman, a Test player of the highest caliber, was part of the Fab Five era along with Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag.
When at his best, Laxman was no less than a treat to sore eyes. Laxman's masterly innings of 281 against Australia at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2001 has been rated as the greatest Test performance of the last 50 years.
Laxman, promoted to no. 3 after his first innings' 59 out of a team score of 171, came up with his magical innings and also added 376 runs for the fifth wicket with Rahul Dravid (180).
Laxman represented the country in 134 Tests, scoring 8781 runs at 45.97. He made his debut against South Africa in 1996 but gained fame with a knock of 167 against Australia in Sydney in 2000.
After announcing his retirement from the game in 2012, Laxman has been associated with commentary and is also a mentor for Indian Premier League side Sunrisers Hyderabad.
As Laxman turned a year older today, many of his former teammates took to Twitter to wish the stylish Hyderabadi batsman.
While wishing Laxman, Tendulkar spilled out a dressing room secret. "Happy b'day, Lax! Shall I spill out the secret behind ur ability to score runs? Taking a shower & eating an apple before going to bat. Oops," he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Sehwag, who is known for his unique birthday wishes on Twitter, did not disappoint the fans and once again came out on top.
"Wishing #WristJaadugar & Bhrata Shri @VVSLaxman281 a very happy birthday. Can calm any situation with a flick of his wrists.Chitiyan Kalaiyan," Sehwag wrote.
Here's how some of the current and former players wished Laxman.
