The first T20I against New Zealand was the last match of Ashish Nehra. The 38-year old bid adieu to cricket as he feels that it's time to hang his shoes on the shelf after an illustrious 19-year career, but that doesn't stop pacer from throwing a farewell party. Nehra played his last match in his hometown, New Delhi where India defeated New Zealand by 53 runs to lead the three-match T20I series.
In a video on social media, Nehra is seen celebrating with the local boys Virat Kohli and Virender Sehwag.
Nehra came close to adding a final wicket in the first T20I match against New Zealand, but two dropped catches from Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli was the only chance the Delhiite came close. Nehra retired with 253 wickets in all formats in international cricket.
"I will miss all this. That's what you train for. One thing which will definitely be at peace will be my body. I said earlier that I can go a couple more years, but there can't be a better time to walk away," Nehra said after his swansong game in international cricket.
"I played my first game here in New Delhi, 1997. The rules have changed and so many runs are being scored. But whatever happens, this team is here to stay. The future of Indian cricket is in safe hands for the next six-seven years," said Nehra.
It won't be too long till we get to see Nehra back on the field, but as a commentator alongside his buddy Virender Sehwag soon in time to come.
