Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli has signed a Rs 100-crore endorsement deal with sportswear brand Puma following the end of his three-year pact with rival Adidas.
With this, Kohli has become the first Indian sportsperson to sign a Rs 100 crore endorsement deal with a single brand. The deal has been signed for a period of eight years.
The contract also makes him member to an elite club of athletes including sprinters Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell and soccer players Thierry Henry and Oliver Giroud as global ambassadors for Puma.
“A new era begins now. With @PUMA,” Kohli tweeted.
“Both Puma and I are committed to a long-term partnership. I am impressed by the way Puma has gained popularity and market leadership in India in a short period of time,” Kohli said.
Puma is expected to work with Kohli in markets like UK, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East and in countries where cricket is played.
Kohli and Adidas parted ways in November last year.
