India ended a 71-year drought with their maiden Test series victory in Australia, beating the hosts 2-1 after the fourth and final match ended in a draw due to bad weather in Sydney on Monday.
India also became the first Asian team to win a Test series in Australia. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli too is now the first Indian captain to win a Test series on Australian soil.
"Firstly I want to say, I've never been more proud of a team than this one. The culture we've been able to build over the last 12 months. Our transition started here when I became the captain for the first time. Only one word to say, I'm proud. To lead these players is an honour and a privilege. They make the captain look good. Definitely deserve to enjoy this moment. By far this is my best achievement. Has to be on top of the pile," Kohli said at the post-match presentation.
Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma celebrated the historic triumph at the Sydney Cricket Ground right after the post-match presentation as the Indian captain lifted the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Anushka Sharma posted a picture of the team on her instagram account with a captain: "They came. They conquered !! History written and created by this bunch !! Huge congratulations to all players, coaching unit and support staff ; it takes undying perseverance & solid conviction to focus on what’s important and shut out the rest. So so happy and proud of you my love."
Earlier, India scored 622 for 7 in their first innings and then bowled out Australia for 300 thereby enforcing the follow-on.

However, persistent drizzle washed out day five thereby keeping the victory margin down to 2-1.
Coming into this fourth Test, India had an unassailable 2-1 series lead after winning the first Test in Adelaide by 31 runs and the third Test in Melbourne by 137 runs. Australia had won the second Test in Perth by 146 runs.
