New Delhi: Pakistani cricketer Umar Akmal has been caught in yet another controversy after he allegedly got involved in a brawl with locals of a theatre in Pakistan’s Faisalabad. Akmal and four other cricketers - Awais Zia, Bilawal Bhatti, Mohammad Nawaz and Shahid Yousuf - demanded a song to be replayed while watching a drama.
When the request was denied, they reportedly broke into a fight. According to reports in Pakistani media, Akmal was with four other cricketers, but the former has maintained that he was alone.
Defending himself, Akmal said that people should respect his privacy and judge him on his performance on-field.
“I went to watch a drama for entertainment; it is not a bad thing to do…it is my request that a cricketer’s private life should not be highlighted,”
he was quoted by GEO News.
“If I am breaking any law then the government reserves the right to arrest me,”
he added.
Paksitan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked its department of security and vigilance to look into the matter.
Not only Akmal, another Pakistani cricketer has been making it to the news for all the wrong reasons. According to media reports, Ahmed Shehzad smashed the dressing room’s window to vent his anger when he failed to score a ton against Balochistan during a Pakistan Cup match on Sunday.
He scored 79. Shehzad also broke into an argument with on-field umpire saying his catch was not clean.
Defending himself, Shehzad told media that people are creating a mountain off a mole hill.
