Sri Lanka all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva has pulled out from the tour of West Indies after his father was murdered on Thursday, few hours before the national team was scheduled to depart for the Caribbean.
The 26-year-old top-order batsman's father Ranjan de Silva was a local politician. He was gunned down by unknown assailants in Ratmalana, a suburb of Colombo. Police are currently investigating the matter but no arrests have been made so far.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) officials said that Silva has backed out of the tour which includes three Tests.
According to latest reports, the Sri Lanka board has not named any replacement of Silva and it will send a 16-member team to the West Indies.
In 13 Test matches, Silva has scored 1066 runs with an outstanding average of 44.42. With the retirement of almost every senior player, Silva is considered as one of the most promising future players for the Sri Lanka side.
