New Delhi: Rookie Mumbai pacer Shardul Thakur will be a new face in the Indian squad in the upcoming tour of West Indies in July-August.
Thakur, a surprise package in the Indian squad announced by BCCI, is an impressive bowler who has capability to swing the ball away from the right-handed batsmen and hit the pitch hard.
He will be playing under Virat Kohli, who has been named as captain of the squad whereas Ajinkya Rahane will be the vice-captain.
The 24-year-old right arm medium pacer is from Mahim, Maharashtra and is currently the member of Kings XI Punjab in the IPL and plays for the Mumbai Ranji team and is also part of the India A team.
With 48 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 20.81, Thakur’s stats have been pretty good in the Ranji Trophy where he was the joint-highest wicket taker in 2014-15.
Thakur has played 37 first-class matches in total scalping 133 wickets at an average of 27.53.
In the year of 2013, Thakur was struggling to lose his weight. He was 83 kg then and even former Indian star cricketer Sachin Tendulkar advised him to shed weight if he wants to get serious about cricket.
