Rishabh Pant taunts Usman Khawaja during Day 2 of Adelaide Test
Rishabh Pant was heard chirping constantly behind the stumps as India looked to restrict the home side below their first innings total of 250.
India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant is generally loud behind the stumps and on Friday, he was heard taunting the Australians during their innings.
Pant was heard saying "Not everyone is Pujara here, lads" during the 30th over of the Australian innings as Usman Khawaja was batting following Shaun Marsh's dismissal right after lunch.
Khawaja was the set batsman and was looking to steady the ship for the home side much like Cheteshwar Pujara did on day one of the Test match at Adelaide Oval.
The southpaw looked all set for a big innings until he got a ripper from Ravichandran Ashwin and fell for a 125-ball 28 in the 40th over of the innings.
Ashwin got one ball to drift and hurling it around off. Khawaja committed himself on the front foot and leaned forward to defend. But the ball spun away a bit to beat the outside edge of his bat. There was some sound as it went past him and Pant let out an appeal immediately. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena shook his head and Virat Kohli went for the DRS.
The replays rolled in and Hot Spot detected a tiny spot on Khawaja's gloves. That was enough for the third umpire to overrule the on field decision and end Khawaja's stay at the crease.
While he provided enough resistance, he was unable to bail his team out of trouble like Pujara, who scored a gritty 123 off 246 balls.
Pujara looked like a man on a mission and continued to frustrate the Australian bowlers, who looked all set to clean the visitors below 200 at one point.
In the process, he brought up his 16th Test century and maiden in Australia as India went past the 200-run mark towards the fag end of the day.
The 30-year-old took 231 balls to reach the landmark.
However, his tired legs gave up on him and he was finally run-out for 123 off 246 balls as the day came to a close in Adelaide with India on 250/9.
During the course of the innings, he also went past the 5000-run mark in Test cricket in his 65th game for India on Thursday. Pujara is the 12th Indian to breach the 5000-run mark in Test cricket.
