On this day: Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar scored 100th international century

Tendulkar, the leading run scorer in the history of Test and ODI cricket, completed the world record ton by taking a single off Shakib Al Hasan against Bangladesh in Asia Cup 2012.

March 16 holds a historic relevance in world cricket as six years ago Sachin Tendulkar etched his name in the record books by achieving the unthinkable. While playing against Bangladesh in Mirpur, the Master Blaster hammered his 100th international century. With this hundred, Sachin ended the long wait of 1.2 billion population who just couldn't wait any long enough to see his favourite son completing a century of centuries. 

Tendulkar's ton came in the Asia Cup 2012 which was hosted by Bangladesh. He took a single to square leg on Shakin Al Hasan's delivery and ran down the non-striker's end to script the history. Sachin raised his bat and helmet in the air, looked up to the sky as the fans and players in the Shere Bangla national stadium in Dhaka applauded the legend. A moment which truly defined the class of the Superman from India.

Tendulkar's century came off 138 deliveries that included ten boundaries and a six. It was a tremendous achievement for the ageless wonder of Team India. The Men in Blue had lost the match to Bangladesh, but a match which no cricket fan would ever forget.

After the first innings of the match, Sachin did have a few words to spare.

"Dreams do come true. I waited for 22 years to win the World Cup and so my advise to youngsters would be to chase their dreams. I'm glad to have got it now," said Tendulkar during the innings break.

"When I got the 99th century, no one spoke about it. I guess it was the media which started it. Everywhere I went people were talking about my 100th hundred," he said.

Tendulkar was dismissed for 114 as he helped India set a target of 289 runs. Today as the fans come to reminisce the times, when Tendulkar took that single to achieve a historic landmark in the gentlemen's game.
